A Camera Guy Who Goes on Adventures

At least that’s the image he’s trying to cultivate for himself.

Born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, Matt got his start as an Associate Producer on popular outdoor-themed unscripted series Ice Road Truckers and Duck Dynasty, eventually rising to the level of Shooter/Producer and Unit Director of Photography on shows like Ax Men, Appalachian Outlaws, and Bering Sea Gold. After a move to Los Angeles and years of freelancing, he was given an opportunity to be the in-house Director of Photography for Bright Bay Creative, where he worked on series for popular streamers Netflix and Hulu in addition to continuous development material, social content, music videos, and a feature film. While at Bright Bay, Matt also worked as a contract Video Producer for Better Noise Music, generating social video to showcase BNM artists and events.

He doesn’t always have his hat on backwards, but when he does, he’s probably doing something pretty incredible.

Following his return to freelancing in the early days of The Pandemic, Matt has found consistent work for series on Discovery+, HGTV and Magnolia Network while also pursuing opportunities in branded content, including the Shein X 100k Challenge, which won of a handful of Telly Awards. In recent months, in addition to working on HGTV’s Fix My Flip and Magnolia’s Capturing Home as well as shooting social video for e-sports team XSET and serving as the Director of Photography on a Robin Thicke documentary project, Matt completed a master’s program at USC Annenberg in Media & Entertainment Management. He hopes to use his continued education to elevate his 15 years of production experience into a long-lasting career in the industry he loves.
